Piushaven

Near the Heuvelpoort car park, you’ll find Piushaven, a lively spot by the water. Explore Piushaven on foot or by boat and enjoy a cup of coffee or a drink by the water’s edge.

Long neglected, now embraced. That sums up the recent history of Piushaven in a nutshell. Living, working and leisure come together in this vibrant area. The new buildings blend seamlessly with the historic properties, some of which have been given a facelift. The new faces – both residents and business owners – are bringing fresh energy to the area.
Water and shore
Anyone visiting Piushaven will soon find themselves going with the flow. Hop on a boat and discover Tilburg from the water. Unique boat trips, such as the tapas or nature walking cruises, offer something for everyone. Or stay on dry land, and settle down at one of the many waterside terraces, browse the lovely shops or wander on towards Moerenburg Landscape Park. Meanwhile, pop-up shops are adding an extra buzz to Tilburg’s city centre. Creative entrepreneurs have set up shop in venues such as the refurbished Emmapassage, offering a collection of handcrafted items: jewellery, sturdy interior pieces and small works of art are all on sale there.
Farmland and Nature
Leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind and step into De Moerenburg. This peaceful nature reserve borders directly on Piushaven. You can walk or cycle through the open meadows and wooded areas, along the canal and lakes, and through farmland where you’ll discover historic and listed farmhouses. Café Zomerlust on the Oisterwijksebaan serves as a visitor centre, where you can find cycling and walking routes for the area.
A culinary journey around the world
There are plenty of restaurants, cafés and shops in Piushaven, and the great thing is: no two establishments are alike. From breakfast through to dinner, you can choose from a wide variety of styles and flavours. Burgemeester Jansen for a drink and a beer, Doncurado for tapas and a glass of wine. Vermeer pays tribute to the textile industry of yesteryear, whilst De Visserij celebrates the harbour of today. And then there’s Falcon, a unique concept in Tilburg where food, drink, shopping and work complement one another. Pure, honest and local products, made by equally dedicated entrepreneurs, come together here.
From wool to furniture
The former AaBe woollen fabric factory has now been transformed into a unique shopping centre for Tilburg. Historic and listed buildings have been preserved, restored to their former glory and integrated into the complementary new development, which mainly houses homeware shops. It has become a ‘home furnishings boulevard 2.0’, as alongside well-known chains such as Leen Bakker, Praxis, Xooon and Henders & Hazel, you can also do your daily shopping here.
A living stage
Piushaven is bustling day in, day out, but on some days it’s just that little bit livelier than usual. For example, when the harbour serves as a living stage and hosts all sorts of events. The Liberation Concert and the Bridge Keepers’ Concerts are interspersed with an exciting dragon boat race and the Oud Tilburgsch Fiets Duiken. The arrival of Sinterklaas is a highlight for young and old alike every year. Art and culture are a key focus and can be found absolutely everywhere in the harbour area; even in the D’n Ophef bridge, the ballast house provides space for changing exhibitions.
