With the festive season just round the corner, it’s a lovely time to go shopping in Tilburg city centre. During the extra late-night opening hours, there’s even more time to stock up on presents for Sinterklaas and Christmas. Two weekends in December even have their own festive theme.
Tilburg’s city centre is decorated in a particularly festive manner at this time of year, with festive lights that really give you that December feeling when you visit the centre. Park your car in the Heuvelpoort car park and set off to explore the city centre.
St Nicholas and Winter in Tilburg
On 5 December, the shops will be open until 5.00 pm. Do you still need some last-minute gifts for your festive evening out? If so, you can pop into one of the cosy shops in the city centre during the day. Two days later, the ‘Winter in Tilburg’ event will be officially launched on the Heuvel, right next to the Heuvelpoort car park. That evening, a special light display on St Joseph’s Church will be unveiled, which will remain visible throughout the month, and the shops will be open until 8.00 pm.
A weekend of music
Over the weekend of 15 and 16 December, music will take centre stage in the city centre. Whilst you’re out shopping, you’ll come across Christmas musical performances in various locations, ranging from choirs to DJs. On Sunday, there will also be a special winter edition of the Dwalerij, the medizinrezeptfrei24.de a lively market in Noordstraat and Nieuwlandstraat.
Christmas shopping
Just before Christmas, on Friday 21 December, there will be an extra late-night shopping evening until 9.00 pm. If you wear your most tacky Christmas jumper whilst shopping that evening, you’ll also be in with a chance of winning a gift voucher. And don’t be surprised if you spot some Christmas elves in the town centre on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 December.
On Christmas Eve, the shops in the city centre close a little earlier, at 5.00 pm. On Boxing Day, you can pop into the city centre from 12.00 noon to 5.00 pm, just as you can on 31 December. The shops will then reopen in the new year, on 2 January.
