Various traffic measures will therefore be trialled in 2018. The aim is to prevent people from driving too fast \u2013 and thus prevent accidents \u2013 and to make people feel safer when crossing the road. The Heuvelpoort car park is also located within the trial area.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Improving road safety<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>People often drive too fast on the Cityring. This makes many people feel unsafe, for example when crossing the road. Research has shown that people feel that cars are given priority on the Cityring, and that they are allowed far too much space in relation to pedestrians and cyclists. To prevent accidents and improve road safety, various measures will be trialled in the coming period.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>First pilot<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The first pilot, which will last eight weeks, is due to start this week. During this initial trial, traffic between Intermezzo and McDonald\u2019s will be channelled into a single lane to see whether this prevents drivers from speeding. If traffic becomes too heavy for a single lane, the left-hand lane will be reopened to maintain a smooth flow of traffic. The city centre will therefore always remain accessible by car. Before, during and after the pilot schemes, both the volume of traffic and traffic speeds will be measured to see whether the measures have any effect. Test proposals are also in place for the Stadhuisplein \u2013 Schouwburgring and Noordhoekring routes.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Crossing the road safely<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Heuvelring has one official crossing point, near the Korte Heuvel. In practice, however, people cross the road at several points, for example near the McDonald\u2019s and at the entrance to the cycle park on the Heuvel. These crossing points will be clearly marked \u2013 including immediately after the carnival \u2013 to alert motorists to pedestrians crossing the road.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Parking on the ring road<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Would you like to <a href=\"https:\/\/heuvelpoort.nl\/en\/practical-information\/\">Park your car at the Heuvelpoort car park<\/a>? You are very welcome! We will, of course, remain available, even during the pilot schemes. You will notice the measures in action along the way.
